About Jonathan Bonfiglio - writer

Jonathan Bonfiglio is a writer, director, independent producer and organic agricultor of olives and almonds.

His most recent work, Midnight, When Trumpets Cry, will open at the Brighton Fringe Festival on 14th May 2009 before transferring to Gibraltar, Spain and the USA later in the year.

Pr evious work includes Pluto [“…refreshingly intelligent work full of fascinating ideas all wrapped up in a poetic style…” London Theatre Guide “…a beautifully written text…(which)…poetically explores the blurring boundaries of emotion and science, of love and hate.” British Theatre Guide] Human Remains and Nocturn

Jonathan's work has been described by BBC Radio as “akin to having a knife pressed against your throat”, and by Samuel French Publishing as “strong, powerful, poetic.”

Midnight, When Trumpets Cry is his final play in English. His output will now be based in Spanish and French, and La Linea, his second play in Spanish, is nearing completion.

In addition to his plays, Jonathan is currently revising his first novel, Acapulco Falls, and finishing a children’s book, Ghost Dog.

As a theatrical producer, Frida Kahlo: Viva La Vida , is currently playing to sold out houses throughout the United Kingdom at venues such as the Oxford Playhouse, the Tron Theatre and Trestle Arts Base, and How To Die In A Domestic Environment by Nancy Walsh opens at the Oxford Fringe in April.

In musical terms he continues to produce Walrus Nights at the Walrus Social in Waterloo, London and produces tours for artists across a number of countries and venues, including the likes of John Smith in Mexico, Nancy Elizabeth in Spain and Louis Barabbas everywhere. He is also Series Producer of the The Dos Equis Series and runs the new multi-discipline eco-friendly Kuiperfest festival in Aragon, Spain and its associate record label Kuiper Records.

Human Remains is currently being developed into a radio play in collaboration with Promising Productions.

Jonathan lives on a mountainside in a little-known part of Northern Spain, an area with a lower population density than the Sahara.

Background to the recording

Pluto was first produced in 2008 by Grit Productions and Mokita Productions (now MokitaGrit Productions) at the Blue Elephant theatre in London.

The original cast subsequently performed the play at the Kuiperfest arts festival organised by the writer and held in an ancient olive grove in Aragon, Spain.

To take advantage of the location and the availability of the cast, we decided to record the play at night, under the stars to get as close as possible to the setting of the play itself.
